Obama endorses Israeli cable

February 19, 2010

I’ve seen all kinds of crazy celebrity endorsement while overseas, but this took me aback the first time it appeared on TV. Though a quick double take made it clear the Obamas weren’t really telling viewers what Israeli channel to watch, it’s still very well done.

My favorite legitimate celebrity endorsement was Richard Gere looking pensive on posters proclaiming the wonders of “Dandy House,” a men’s day spa in Japan. An ad similar to this one was right outside the entrance to my old office and never failed to amuse:

“Good men for Japan.
Because [you] have a dream, Dandy House.”

Implying Richard Gere is the good example of masculinity that Japanese men should strive to emulate — through frequenting a place called Dandy House, no less — is just too much.

Richard Gere is actually a Junichiro Koizumi doppelganger. Perhaps that’s why Japanese men can relate to him 🙂
