Panctured tire — really?

May 23, 2011

One of the best things about my job is having the chance to communicate with lots of people from around the world, most of whom are not native English speakers. With so much communication done in writing via instant messenger, Skype, and email, regional accents sometimes creep into various clients’, contractors’, and translators’ spelling to match the way they speak on the phone and in person. It’s charming and makes rote communication more personalized and fun, usually bringing a smile to my face.

When such lapses in spelling creep into my English-language news, however — in a headline, no less — I am not as tickled:

Panctured tire, according to ynet

As fun as it may be to read this with an Israeli accent, shame on you, ynet.
