Make Way for Ducklings statue in the Boston Public GardenMichigan is my birthplace and still connotes “home” on some level. The farther away I get and the longer I’m gone, the more clear it becomes that I am who I am because I grew up in the Midwest.

Boston is my second American home. My time there is a blur of being holed up in eerily silent research libraries; avoiding the Green Line on game days, the Red Line when it caught on fire, and police investigations on the Orange Line; and trying to teach undergrads the meaning of rhetorical analysis. I finished grad school and left the city at the end of 2009 to join my husband in Israel.
